Cowrie is a free and open-source SSH and Telnet honeypot, developed in the open and used by security researchers, CERTs, and defenders around the world.
Cowrie began in 2014 as a fork of the Kippo honeypot and has grown into one of the most widely deployed honeypots in the world. It records brute-force attacks and the shell sessions attackers perform, captures the malware they upload, and turns it all into threat intelligence you can analyze with the tools you already use.
Development happens in the open on GitHub, driven by a community of volunteer contributors.
Cowrie is maintained by volunteers, with contributions from hundreds of people worldwide.
